Financial Rules to Live By – Joe’s Journal

financial rules for real estate agents

  • Like it or not, who you choose as your spouse/partner is a financial decision as well as an emotional one. Choose wisely.
  • Prioritize paying off high interest debt. You’re not going to out invest a 20% interest rate on a credit card.
  • Have a 3-month emergency reserve of cash. Unexpected expenses will arise. Don’t get caught with your pants down when the tide rushes out.
  • Have a budget. A good basic framework framework is 50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings/investments.
  • Invest your money. You will work until you die if you don’t. Low-cost index funds are a great way to do this.
  • Utilize a Roth IRA account to pay the tax rate now and reap the benefits of tax-free returns in the future. We all know tax rates only go up.
  • If you borrow money for college, make sure it’s for a high paying career path that will enable you to pay it back.
  • Automate your finances. Bills, Savings, Investments.
  • Prioritize your health. Exercise and eat healthy. A healthy woman with no money has a million wishes. A sick woman that’s a billionaire has one.
  • Saving $5 on coffee won’t make you rich. Saving money on decisions that have 0’s at the end will. IE: Home, Vehicles, Etc.
  • Learn from the ones that did it before you. Read books, listen to podcasts. More learning, less Netflix.
  • Live below your means. 64% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. You don’t have to be one of them.
